Hlamidis Orthopaedic Center is contracted with EOPYY (ΕΟΠΥΥ), Greece's national health insurance organisation, for all the products it makes. EOPYY is the public body that covers healthcare for people insured in Greece. On this page we explain, in plain language, who is entitled to reimbursement for prosthetic limbs, braces, orthoses, insoles and therapeutic footwear, what the steps are, which documents you need and what maximum amounts the law sets. You do not have to work it all out on your own: we guide you through every step.

What EOPYY covers

Under the Unified Health Benefits Regulation (EKPY, Government Gazette (ΦΕΚ) B' 2106/2025, Article 46), EOPYY provides its insured members with orthotic devices, upper- and lower-limb prostheses, splints and braces, provided the products are listed in EOPYY's register of reimbursable products.

For each item, a table (the annex) sets the maximum reimbursement price, the conditions for which it is provided, with ICD-10 codes (the international diagnosis codes), and the period after which it can be replaced. The annex was published in Government Gazette (FEK) B' 1079/2022 and amended by FEK B' 2134/2023.

Who is entitled to reimbursement

As an EOPYY beneficiary (a person insured in Greece), you are entitled to reimbursement when:

  • a doctor whose specialty matches your condition has issued a prescription for the specific item;
  • your diagnosis is among the ICD-10 codes the annex lists for that item;
  • the item is supplied by an EOPYY-contracted provider and is listed in EOPYY's register;
  • the replacement period has passed, if the item is replacing an older one.

If your item or condition is not included in the annex, or if you need a larger quantity, EOPYY may reimburse it after a positive decision by the Supreme Health Council (ΑΥΣ), under Article 53 of the EKPY (FEK B' 3541/2026).

If you are not insured in Greece, EOPYY reimbursement does not apply; you can pay privately, and any cover depends on your own insurer's rules. Contact us and we will give you the information you need for your case.

25% contribution and exemptions

As an insured person you pay a 25% contribution on the reimbursement price. If the price on the invoice is lower than the reimbursement price, the 25% is calculated on the invoice price.

The EKPY exempts certain categories of insured people from the contribution, such as:

  • people with an amputation and a disability of 67% or more who receive, under Law 1759/1988, a non-institutional care allowance for the purchase of prosthetic items;
  • insured people with a work-accident decision, for the item related to the accident;
  • certain insured people assessed by KEPA (the Greek disability certification centres) or by Special Health Committees.

Because the conditions vary from case to case, contact us and we will check what applies to you.

The process step by step

  1. Prescription from a doctor of the relevant specialty. Your doctor (for example an orthopaedic surgeon, a physical medicine and rehabilitation specialist or a vascular surgeon, depending on your condition) issues an electronic prescription (referral) for the item you need, with the diagnosis as an ICD-10 code.
  2. Choosing a contracted provider. You go to an EOPYY-contracted provider, such as Hlamidis Orthopaedic Center. Since 2017, orthopaedic items have been supplied only through contracted providers, not by refunding the insured person.
  3. Assessment and measurements. We examine you, take measurements or a cast, and explain your options, together with what EOPYY covers and what your share will be.
  4. Documents and processing the prescription. We tell you which documents you need for your case. The provider processes the prescription electronically on EOPYY's system.
  5. Manufacture, fitting and delivery. We make and fit the item. On delivery you sign to confirm it and pay your contribution (25%), plus any difference if you have chosen an item priced above the maximum amount.
  6. Replacement. When the replacement period set in the annex has passed, the process starts again with a new prescription.

Documents: checklist

  • Electronic prescription from a doctor of the relevant specialty for the specific item, with the diagnosis (ICD-10).
  • The insured person's ID details and AMKA (Greek social security number).
  • A KEPA or Health Committee decision, if you are applying for an exemption from the contribution.
  • A work-accident decision, if the item is related to one.
  • Proof of receipt of an allowance, where required for the exemption.
  • A positive decision by the Supreme Health Council (ΑΥΣ), if the item, quantity or condition is not covered by the annex.

Please do not send prescriptions or other medical documents through the contact form. Bring them with you to your appointment, or call us on +30 2310 282 894 and we will tell you how to submit them.

What if the item costs more than the maximum amount?

EOPYY reimburses up to the maximum price of the category under which the prescription is processed. If you choose an item with a higher price, you pay your contribution plus the difference between the price of the item and the amount reimbursed.

Illustrative example: for a Boston brace with a maximum reimbursable price of €595.00, if the invoice is €595.00, the 25% contribution is €148.75 and EOPYY covers the remaining €446.25.

For bionic microprocessor knees (e.g. C-Leg, Genium, Rheo Knee, Power Knee) there is no separate category in the annex; the most expensive knee it provides for is the type 5 hydraulic knee. Contact us so that we can check what applies to your case, and ask us for a detailed quotation showing the amount EOPYY covers and the amount you would pay. Contact
Does EOPYY cover prosthetic limbs in Greece?

Yes, for people insured in Greece. EOPYY, Greece's national health insurance organisation, reimburses upper- and lower-limb prostheses with a prescription from a doctor of the relevant specialty, when you obtain them from a contracted provider. Reimbursement is calculated per component (socket, knee, foot etc.) up to the maximum price in the Government Gazette (FEK), with a 25% contribution. Most components are replaced every 5 years, and the silicone liner every year.

How do I get a scoliosis brace through EOPYY?

You need a prescription from a doctor of the relevant specialty, usually an orthopaedic surgeon. According to FEK B' 1079/2022, the maximum reimbursable price including VAT is €595 for the Boston brace and €669 for the Cheneau, with a 25% contribution. For children up to 16, replacement is every 6 months, and for teenagers aged 16–18 every year. See the scoliosis braces we make.

Which orthopaedic products does EOPYY cover?

Under Article 46 of the EKPY (Unified Health Benefits Regulation), EOPYY covers orthotic devices, upper- and lower-limb prostheses, splints and braces, as well as items such as special insoles, therapeutic diabetic shoes and orthopaedic shoes, for the conditions set out in the annex. Each item must be listed in EOPYY's register and supplied by a contracted provider.

Does EOPYY pay for diabetic shoes?

Yes, with a doctor's prescription and for the diagnoses set out in the annex. According to FEK B' 1079/2022, the maximum reimbursable price including VAT is €115 per pair of therapeutic shoes with removable insoles (2 pairs every 2 years) and €330 for custom shoes made from a cast (every 2 years). See our diabetic shoes.

Does EOPYY cover a foot scan?

We did not find the foot scan listed as a separate benefit in the annex of FEK B' 1079/2022. However, certain insoles are reimbursed, such as the special insole made from a cast and the custom diabetic insole, for specific diagnoses. Contact us and we will check what applies to your case. See also our foot scan and custom insoles.

Does EOPYY reimburse custom orthotic insoles?

The annex provides for a "special insole made from a cast", with a maximum reimbursable price of €90 including VAT, for specific diagnoses (e.g. ICD-10 codes S98, Q72.x, Q73), and a "custom diabetic insole" at €34 per year. For other conditions, cover is not guaranteed. Bring us your prescription and we will check whether you are entitled to reimbursement.

Can I buy an orthopaedic product myself and claim reimbursement later?

Since 2017, EOPYY has supplied orthopaedic products only through contracted providers. This means the prescription must be processed by a contracted provider, such as Hlamidis Orthopaedic Center, rather than you submitting a receipt for a refund. So contact the provider before you buy anything.

How often am I entitled to a new prosthetic limb or brace?

The replacement period is set for each item in the annex. For lower-limb prosthetic components it is usually 5 years, for a silicone liner 1 year, and for scoliosis braces for children up to 16, 6 months. If your condition changes sooner, a decision by the Supreme Health Council (ΑΥΣ) may be needed. Contact us and we will check what applies to you.
