Ottobock C-Leg 4: microprocessor knee for safe, confident walking
Ottobock’s C-Leg is one of the most widely used microprocessor knees. It adapts to the way you walk in real time and supports you if you stumble.
We design and make prosthetic limbs, orthoses, braces and insoles in our own workshop, for adults and children. Three generations of prosthetists and orthotists at your side, from the first assessment to every step that follows.

From a first prosthetic limb to a scoliosis brace or custom insoles, every solution is designed and made in our own workshop.

Upper- and lower-limb prostheses for every level of amputation, made in our workshop.

Microprocessor knees and feet from Ottobock and Össur.

Custom-made scoliosis and kyphosis braces, in cooperation with your doctor.

Foot scan with plantar pressure analysis and custom orthotic insoles.

Upper- and lower-limb orthoses and braces for adults and children.

Paediatric AFO/SMO orthoses, plagiocephaly helmets and other 3D-printed solutions.

In 1952 K. Karatzas and I. Hlamidis, technicians at the Military Orthopaedic Factory, founded the first orthopaedic workshop in Northern Greece. Since 1990 the company has been run by Iordanis Hlamidis, while the third generation, Ioannis Hlamidis, trained at the Ottobock Academy. Our aim remains the same: to help you keep your independence and your freedom.
We get to know you, listen to your goals and assess your needs together with your treating physician. We explain your options and what EOPYY covers if you are insured in Greece.
We take your measurements with a plaster cast or a 3D scan, depending on the product you need.
We make the product in our workshop. For prostheses we start with a test socket, so that we can correct the fit before the definitive socket is made.
We show you how to put on and look after your new limb or orthosis, train your walking (gait training) and make any necessary adjustments at your follow-up appointments.
Bionic knees and feet use sensors to “read” every step and adjust their resistance in real time, on stairs, slopes and uneven ground. We fit Ottobock and Össur systems and help you find out whether one suits you, and which.

Ottobock’s C-Leg is one of the most widely used microprocessor knees. It adapts to the way you walk in real time and supports you if you stumble.

The Genium is Ottobock’s most advanced bionic knee, designed to come as close as possible to natural walking: step-over-step stairs, obstacles, slopes and walking backwards.

Össur’s Rheo Knee is a microprocessor knee that “learns” the way you move and adapts automatically, for comfortable walking at any speed, on slopes and on steps.

Össur’s Power Knee is a motor-powered microprocessor knee: it does not just control movement, it adds power when you rise from a chair, walk and climb stairs.

Össur’s Proprio Foot is a prosthetic foot with a microprocessor-controlled ankle: it lifts the toes with every step and adapts to ramps, stairs and different shoes.
Our shop and workshop are at Egnatia 101, in the centre of Thessaloniki. Hlamidis Orthopaedic Center has been designing, making and fitting orthopaedic products here since 1952: from a pair of custom orthotic insoles to a complete above-knee prosthesis with a microprocessor knee. Anything that needs to be individually tailored is made to order by our certified prosthetist-orthotists, always in line with your treating physician's instructions.
Patients come to us from eastern and western Thessaloniki, from across Northern Greece and from the rest of the country. If you are travelling from further away, we plan your visits (assessment, measurements, fittings, delivery) so that you need to make as few trips as possible.
Prosthetics is our core speciality. We make upper- and lower-limb prostheses for every level of amputation: prosthetic legs (above-knee and below-knee prostheses, hip and knee disarticulation, silicone partial-foot prostheses) and prosthetic arms and hands (cosmetic, body-powered and myoelectric prostheses). For users who need more safety and freedom of movement, we fit bionic knees and feet from Ottobock and Össur.
In the same workshop we make orthoses and splints for the upper and lower limbs, for adults and children, scoliosis and kyphosis braces, and individual solutions using 3D printing, such as paediatric AFO/SMO orthoses. Orthoses are custom-made products: they are built to your own measurements, after a plaster cast or a scan.
With our foot scanner we examine your posture and the way your foot meets the ground (plantar pressure analysis), and then make custom orthotic insoles to your measurements. You will also find orthopaedic insoles and footwear: diabetic shoes, orthopaedic children's shoes and sports supports, both off the shelf and made to order.
A prosthesis or an orthosis is not finished on the day you collect it. Our premises include a dedicated physiotherapy and prosthetic-training area, where you learn to walk safely on the level, on stairs and on slopes. We work with your doctor and physiotherapist and, as your residual limb or your body changes, we make the necessary adjustments. For prosthesis users we recommend a check-up at least every six months.
As partners of leading manufacturers such as Ottobock, Össur, Endolite, Teufel and Schein, we have access to modern components and materials, which we combine with our experience in making every socket and every orthosis by hand.
We are a contracted provider of EOPYY (ΕΟΠΥΥ), Greece's national health insurance organisation, for all the products we make. If you are insured in Greece, once your doctor has issued the electronic prescription we handle the process and tell you from the outset how much EOPYY covers and what your own contribution will be. See in detail how EOPYY reimbursement works or contact us to book an assessment.

The price of a prosthetic leg is not a single number: it depends on the level of amputation, how active you are and the components. See what EOPYY covers and what is left for you to pay.

Amputation is not the end of the road. See, stage by stage, what usually happens on the way to your first prosthetic limb: healing, residual limb care, the prosthesis, walking and EOPYY.

Microprocessor knees look alike, but they are not the same. We compare the C-Leg, Genium X3, Rheo Knee and Power Knee using manufacturers’ data, and explain cost and EOPYY.
Yes. We are contracted with EOPYY (ΕΟΠΥΥ), Greece's national health insurance organisation, for all the products we make. If you are insured in Greece, you need an electronic prescription from a doctor of the relevant specialty. The insured person's contribution is generally 25% of the reimbursement price, with exceptions set out in the regulations. See the EOPYY reimbursement process in detail.
We make every type of prosthetic limb, orthosis, splint and brace, as well as custom orthotic insoles made to your measurements. We also stock sports supports and orthopaedic products, both off the shelf and made to order. Everything is made in our own workshop, in line with your treating physician's instructions.
It depends on the level of amputation, how well the residual limb has healed and the components chosen. We usually start with a first (temporary) prosthesis for the first few months and, once the residual limb has stabilised, we make the definitive socket. After your assessment we give you a realistic timeline for your own case.
Our shop and workshop are at Egnatia 101, 546 35 Thessaloniki, Greece, in the city centre. You can call us on +30 2310 282 894 or +30 2310 227 976 to book an appointment. You will find directions and a map on our contact page.
Yes, we see patients from all over Greece. The first assessment, measurements and fittings take place at our premises, so we plan your visits with you to keep the number of trips as low as possible. Call us on +30 2310 282 894 and we will arrange your first visit.
Yes. We make 3D-printed paediatric AFO/SMO orthoses, scoliosis braces, plagiocephaly helmets and prosthetic limbs for children, and we also stock orthopaedic children's shoes. The choice is always made together with your child's paediatrician or orthopaedic surgeon, and we monitor progress at regular check-ups.
The cost depends on the type of product, the materials and the components you need, as well as on the amount covered by EOPYY if you are insured in Greece. After your assessment we give you a written, itemised proposal. For prosthetic legs, read our guide on how much a prosthetic leg costs.
