Below-knee (transtibial) prostheses – a prosthetic leg below the knee
Modern below-knee prostheses with a custom-made socket, silicone liner and vacuum suspension systems for a secure fit all day long.
UNYQ covers are personalised, 3D-printed prosthetic covers that bring symmetry, protection and style to below-knee and above-knee prostheses.

Many people who use a prosthetic leg feel self-conscious about how their prosthesis looks and hesitate to show it in public or social settings. But what if your prosthesis became an asset? A talking point, an expression of who you are, a symbol of your individuality.
That is the idea behind UNYQ prosthetic covers: personalised, 3D-printed covers for below-knee and above-knee prostheses. At Hlamidis Orthopaedic Center in Thessaloniki we fit them to below-knee and above-knee prostheses.
They are covers that fit around the metal pylon and components of the prosthesis. They are designed digitally, based on a scan of your body and your prosthesis, so that they follow the shape of your other leg and fit the components exactly. They are then 3D-printed.
They are an excellent alternative to traditional foam covers (cosmetic foam covers), especially in demanding conditions, where foam can wear or absorb moisture.

To find out more about how 3D printing is changing prosthetics, and about its other applications, see our 3D printing section.
UNYQ covers are available for below-knee prostheses and above-knee prostheses. Whether a cover suits your prosthesis depends on the components, the length and the space around the knee and pylon. We check this before ordering.
If you prefer something more discreet, there are also skin-coloured cosmetic silicone covers, such as those we use on our knee disarticulation prostheses.
Some people choose a neutral colour that goes with their work clothes; others go for a bold design that turns heads on the beach or at the sports ground. There is no right or wrong: the cover is for you. A prosthesis you enjoy showing can make social moments more relaxed and change the way people around you see it. We will help you look at samples and photos so that you can decide with confidence.
The cover is easy to clean, following the manufacturer’s instructions, which we give you when it is handed over. If it gets knocked or cracked, bring it in for us to check, so that the prosthesis underneath is not affected.
The price of a cover depends on the type of prosthesis, the design and the material. Government Gazette (ΦΕΚ) B' 1079/2022 provides reimbursement by EOPYY (ΕΟΠΥΥ), Greece’s national health insurance organisation, for a “foam cover” for above-knee or below-knee prostheses, for people insured in Greece. To find out whether and how this can be combined with a UNYQ cover, contact us and we will check what applies in your case. See also our EOPYY reimbursement page. It is a personalised cover for a prosthetic leg, made by 3D printing. It is designed from a scan of your body and your prosthesis, so that it reproduces the shape of your other leg. It protects the components and lets you choose a design and colour that express your style.
Often, yes, as long as the components and the length of the prosthesis leave the necessary space. UNYQ covers are available for below-knee and above-knee prostheses. Before ordering, we check your prosthesis so that the cover fits properly and does not affect how the knee or foot works.
UNYQ covers can be removed and refitted, so many users have more than one, for example one for everyday wear and one for special occasions. We will show you how to change them safely without affecting the alignment of your prosthesis.
For people insured in Greece, FEK B' 1079/2022 provides reimbursement for a foam cover for above-knee or below-knee prostheses, not specifically for 3D-printed covers.
